Solar Core

Found in the Cloud Region of Sal, where there is no ground, and people build airships using strange power source unknown to other worlds. These artifacts are commonly worn by engineers and technicians working on or around these flying machines.

On Sal, its people use a form of magic they call "Solar Heat," among other names. It is said to be a form of arcane energy that is generated by the sun inside the planet Char, which Sal orbits, and which is always visible in their sky. Once the Heat is generated in Char, it radiates out from that planet down to the ground on Sal, where it can then be captured and used to do work.

The Heat arrives in a constant, weak supply, therefore the various peoples on Sal have developed different ways to store this energy. The Solar Core is one such solution invented by the humans of the Cloud Region, who needed a very lightweight, cheap, portable, and stable form of Heat storage for emergencies. Though these pendants only hold a small amount, due to the efficiency of the technologies they have developed out of necessity in this region, such a small amount is apparently "enough to get your butt out of dodge, in a pinch," according to the locals.

The gems in the original artifacts actually are a special form of glass they make containing dust from their "sky plant," Char. That dust allows the glass to store the Heat. Since we were not permitted by the locals to remove this material from their world, we opted to use Sunstone instead, as it closely resembles the fiery inner glow present in charged "Charglass."

Therefore, since the magical components of these artifacts have been replaced by mundane gems, they have been made safe via "disassembly."
